For all UXLxers working at companies developing and launching products and services within:

  • computers and operating systems
  • ATMs, ticketing and check-in machines
  • smartphones
  • TV equipment related to digital television services
  • telephony services and related equipment
  • access to audio-visual media services such as television broadcast and related consumer equipment
  • services related to air, bus, rail and waterborne passenger transport
  • banking services
  • e-books
  • e-commerce

you should by now be aware that as of June 2025 you have to comply with the European Accessibility Act (EAA). If by any change you’re still not familiar with it, the EAA is a European Union (EU) directive on accessibility requirements for products and services that applies to the private sector.

Even if you’re working in a company based outside the EU, but you’re conducting business within the EU market you must comply with the EAA guidelines.

The EAA is coming right up so at UXLx we want to equip you with the necessary tools to start addressing accessibility at your company (or continue the work if you’re already on it). In the 2024 programme you can find two workshops focusing on accessibility. Charlie Triplett is talking about embracing accessibility as a powerful design tool, and Anna Cook will show us how we can make our design systems accessible. Plus, on the last day of our conference, Charlie is joining the lineup for a talk on “Innovating with Accessibility”.

Accessibility as a Design Tool — Beyond Compliance to Innovation by Charlie Triplett

Attendees collaborating on an exercise during a workshop at UXLx 2023

Charlie Triplett is a champion of inclusive UX design and accessible UI engineering. He invented and open-sourced MagentaA11y.com, a tool for generating atomic level accessibility acceptance criteria. Charlie is also the author of The Book on Accessibility, an operational guide for focusing any sized organization on accessibility.

He’s flying all the way from Seattle to teach us how to inclusion can be a powerful design tool, not just another requirement.

In this workshop, we’ll learn:

  • How to dispel myths
  • How assistive technology (like screen readers) work
  • Core design patterns to adopt and which to avoid
  • Where to interpret WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines)

You’ll build a foundation for continuing to evolve in your accessibility journey, innovating better solutions for all people.

🎟️ You’ll need a 4 Days, 3 Days or 2 Days T+F ticket to attend Charlie’s workshop.

Scheduled for 🗓️ 23 May 2024 🕘 14:00 to 17:30

Auditing Design Systems for Accessibility by Anna Cook

Workshop at UXLx 2023

As a Senior Inclusive Designer at Microsoft, Anna specializes in building inclusive products, focusing on accessibility and inclusion for Azure and beyond.

As a workshop facilitator at UXLx 2024, Anna will guide us in conducting an accessibility audit on our design systems to create more inclusive experiences.

Learn how to meet user needs and gain competitive advantages by building inclusive, user-friendly products. We’ll explore how to audit designs, client-side code, and documentation.

This practical session will equip us not only to perform audits but also to effectively communicate the results to gain support for further accessibility improvements.

🎟️ You’ll need a 4 Days, 3 Days or 2 Days T+F ticket to attend Anna’s workshop.

Scheduled for 🗓️ 23 May 2024 🕘 09:00 to 12:30

Innovating with Accessibility by Charlie Triplett (talk)

Talks day at UXLx 2023

Charlie will join us once more on the last day of UXLx 2024 to guide us through how accessible first design is not just the right approach for innovative UX outcomes — it’s the smartest.

Here’s the deal: Average ideas for average people wins the race to be… average. Innovation isn’t magic; it’s predictable and repeatable if you know where to find it. Treating accessibility as an extreme use case (not an edge case) generates new valuable products — both digital and physical.

🎟️ All UXLx 2024 ticket types give you access to Charlie’s talk.

Scheduled for 🗓️ 24 May 2024 🕘 16:00 to 16:30
