On top of being Europe’s largest UX training conference, with 80 hours of hands-on learning on what’s ahead and a world-class line-up of speakers, UXLx is set in the stunning capital city of Portugal — Lisbon.

The city is known for its seven hills, so we bring you the seven reasons why you should choose to attend a conference in such a picturesque city.

1 . A Budget-Friendly City

Terreiro do Paço

Lisbon is one of Europe’s least expensive capital cities. It offers quite an affordable price for food, drink, public transportation and accommodation. For example, you’ll easily get a coffee for 0.65€, a beer for 1€ and a full breakfast for around 4€. In what concerns accommodation, the budget will vary depending on the type of hotel but the prices go from 25€ to 130€ (starting price) per night.

You won’t have to worry about morning and afternoon snacks nor lunches while you’re at UXLx, as all is included in the ticket price. We also offer dinners for 30€, drinks included (not included in the ticket price). They’re a perfect opportunity for networking and discussing some ideas with the speakers, as they often join these dinners as well.

2 . Airport Located in the City Centre

Lisbon’s International Airport

Unlike most of the airports in Europe, Lisbon International Airport is conveniently located within the city. It provides direct and cheap connections to all major European cities as well as the world’s largest cities. Flights should always be booked well in advance to secure the lowest prices.

The venue is located a mere 10 minutes from the airport, which means you can catch an early flight into the event and leave on the last ones. It’s also very easy to travel from the airport to the city centre. You have three options: the metro (1,50€), the Aerobus (3,50€) and taking a Taxi or Uber (7–15€).

3 . A Great Year-Round Climate

Lisbon as 325 sunshine days a year and the best time of the year to visit Lisbon is probably in the late spring. Well, that’s exactly when UXLx happens (from 21 to 24 May) so you can expect bright sunny days and a warm temperature around 20–25ºC.

4 . You’ll Be Safe and Sound

Rua Augusta — Downtown

Lisbon is one of the safest European capitals. The biggest potencial issue visitors might experience are the highly skilled pickpockets. You just have to be extra careful in crowded tourist areas and tram rides. Overall, the main tourist areas are very safe, with a high-level of police presence. It’s also perfectly safe for female or sole visitors.

5 . It’s a Foodie’s Paradise

Pastéis de Belém

Lisbon offers delicious menus for all tastes and diets, from Michelin Star Chefs’ restaurants to century-old tascas (very small restaurants). The famous bacalhau (salted cod) cooked in 1001 different ways, the seafood and fresh fish are not to be missed. If you’re more a sweets kind of person you’ve definitely got to taste Pastéis de Belém (cream custards).

6 . It Has Stunning Views

Miradouro de Nossa Senhora do Monte (Viewpoint)

There are more than 20 viewpoints and terraces spread across the city, where you can see amazing panoramic views of the city from different angles and perspetives. Lisbon’s lively café culture make people gather for a drink while enjoying some breathtaking views and enchanting sunsets. The Tagus River is also part of the city’s identity and there are 20km of promenades along the broad estuary. The venue is just 50 meters away from the river so you can go for an afternoon stroll after the event.

7 . A City Where the Old and the New Meet

Lisbon is a scenic city that blends traditional heritage with striking modernism. It’s actually one of the oldest cities in the world, and several ancient civilisations that inhabited the city throughout the centuries have left their legacy there. The old is perfectly intertwined with the new. Here and there you’ll find urban art by world famous artists and contemporary architecture. Just see for yourself as you explore the historic neighbourhoods, get lost in the cobbled and narrow streets and go for a tram ride up the hills.

You might come to UXLx exclusively on a training-focused trip and not have much time to do some sightseeing around the city, but if you’re not on a tight schedule why not sticking around for a couple more days?

Check the programme, select your ticket and book the flight. Lisbon awaits and we’re looking forward to see you at UXLx 2019 too. It’s going to be legendary!
